Imge of Bobby

As the name of my website implies, my name is Bob. I live in the West Midlands and I work in London as a senior Android app developer. I have 3 children (that I know about) and I’m happily married to my wonderful wife. I’m a massive nerd when it comes to comics, movies, computers and video games and on this site, you’ll find plenty of those topics.

Personal Life

Born and raised in north Wales, I grew up in a fairly large town on the border of England and Wales with my parents and my older brother and sister. My first language is English although I did learn Welsh in school, I have since forgotten how to speak it but as I don’t have much call for it unless I’m belting out the national anthem at a rugby international, I’ve never really needed to speak it.

I have been massivly in to computer since the late 90s. A friend introduced me cool thins like Linux and how to use the internet properly (56k dail up internet I mean) and since then I have been either buidling my own PCs, repairing friends and families machines or just general messing around with them. My current PC specs are:

Sport, Health & Fitness

I’ve never been particularly sporty, I do watch rugby (mainly internationals) and MMA. I take part in casual archery when I can, having children and living away from how through the week does make it tricky to shoot but I do enjoy it as it’s fairly slow paced and for me it really centres my mind if I’ve had a stressful day/week.

At the start of 2018 my height was 5″ 7′ and I weighed 15st 11lbs (211lbs), through the early part of the year I struggled to lose and effectivly keep off 1st. In July 2018 myself and my wife found a local Cambridge Wight Plan consultant and started the Cambridge diet (recently renamed as the 1:1 diet). as of December 2018 I weighed exactly 11st (154lbs) . In October 2018 I decided to join a Gym and I hit it pretty hard. It’s something I have been trying to do for some time, however my size made it difficult to so small amounts of exercise without feeling like I was going to die. But the weight I had lost made it so I could get my body used to doing exercise again, something I had not really done since high school. I now either visit the gym 5 times a week or take part in a fitness DVD (see fitness blog for info about both of these).

The tagline for my website says “Fitness Fanatic”, since October 2018 I have been quite fanaitcal about my fitness and I have the goal that by June/July 2019 I will have a “beach body”. NOt for any particular reason other than it something I though I would never acheieve, however I feel I have the mindset to acheieve that goal.

Growing up I used to read a lot of comics. The majority of my preteen life I felt like a bit of an outsider, and in reality, probably most of my teens too but no teen wants to admit that. But comics seemed to make me feel a part of something, in addition to being dyslexic comics were one of the few things that I wanted to read due to their balance of imagery and text, but I could read a stack of comics cover to back, one after another with ease. Growing up I mainly read Batman, Judge Dredd (some 2000ad), Ironman and the Flash. Back in the late 80s and early 90s I could relate more to the comics with a non-alien/meta-human protagonist as they had no super-powers like myself.

Comic Movies & TV

Growing up reading comics and now we have the opportunity to see some of the great stories of my childhood being brought to life in live action movies and television shows. Some of my favourites include Marvel’s Avengers plus the subsequent solo movies, especially Ironman (except the third movie, what were they thinking with the Mandarin?), I also like (most) of Dc’s movies too like Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy (maybe not The Dark Knight Rises for a number of reasons), however the more recent Snyder era movies seem a little bit flat and very rushed, although I did enjoy Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Justice League.

TV I’m enjoying the CW’s Arrowverse, and in many ways think that it’s more successful than DCEU movies, and wish that some of the more popular characters (like Batman for example) were in those. Additionally, Marvel’s Netflix series’ too – Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is another that is very well made, I particularly like the consistency of characters that have crossed over from the MCU into AOS in addition to events from movies being referenced in the TV series, this makes the movies and series’ that Marvel make seem well connected.
